If you had the money to buy an automobile, I assume that you would want nothing but a vehicle that had a sleek and sexy design plus the power to deliver your driving needs. However, whether you believe it or not, there are cars that have weird designs that will leave you baffled and confused.
1. PONTIAC AZTEK
No, you’re not seeing double. The Pontiac Aztek, which was dubbed as one of the worst cars in recent history, has an exterior design that is just depressing and confusing at the same time. Why does its front design look like there are two cars on top of each other? What were its manufacturers thinking? Good thing Pontiac ended its production when it closed down in 2009 due to bankruptcy.
2. CITROEN AMI
The Citroen Ami, categorized as a super mini, was manufactured from 1961 to 1978. Even if the car looked as if a rock fell on its front and its roof was pulled off at the back, it still became one of the best-selling cars in France during that decade.
3. SEBRING-VANGUARD CITICAR
Introduced in the early 1970s, the Sebring-Vanguard Citicar electric vehicle came to the rescue when the US was experiencing a fuel crisis. Even though its technology was ahead of its time, the vehicle’s ugly and weird design surely must have been overlooked during the planning stage. Just look at how confusing the car’s sloped front looks like.
4. FIAT MULTIPLA
This odd-looking family car was sold in the market from 1998 to 2010. Why did people buy this ugly vehicle? I’m guessing it was because it has three seats on each row, which means that more people can fit in this alien-like vehicle.
5. MARCOS MANTIS M70
Introduced in the 1970s, the Mantis M70 was produced by Marcos, a manufacturer of race cars, to be a street legal car. Even though this vehicle promised a great performance when driven, its ugly design didn’t actually do well with the market. It was reported that only 30 to 40 cars were made.
6. BOND BUG
The Bond Bug, which is clearly designed after an elf’s shoe, is a small two-seat vehicle on three wheels. It also has a zip-up window, which again proves that this car was patterned after a shoe. Unfortunately, even if this car looks terribly weird, it can be legally driven on the streets.
7. LAMBORGHINI LM002
An SUV built from the late 80s to the early 90s, this Lamborghini has a design that is far from the Lambos we’re used to. Just look at how geometrically awkward this SUV looks like — this will surely leave you baffled!
8. RELIANT REGAL ROBIN
This is another three-wheeled vehicle that will leave you baffled by its design. Called the Reliant Regal Robin, it looks like a car, but it’s considered by the UK laws as a tricycle, which makes it a little bit confusing.
9. AMC GREMLIN
Commonly known as “The Gremlin,” this vehicle is considered as a subcompact automobile that was produced in the 70s. Although the AMC was built to beat the other subcompact cars during that decade, its weird proportion (long snout and whacked rear) didn’t actually make the market go crazy.
10. TATRA 603
Manufactured in Czechoslovakia starting from the late 50s until the 70s, this oddly-shaped car was a luxury vehicle during those decades. In fact, only high-ranking politicians and businessmen rode it.
11. HONDA INSIGHT HYBRID
The first-generation Honda Insight Hybrid isn’t actually making people want to buy the car because of its peculiar design. This two-passenger hatchback has three doors and its rear wheels are almost covered.
12. NISSAN S-CARGO
Although its manufacturers say that the design of this automobile was inspired by a postwar French vehicle (Citroen 2CV), to me, this car looks like a snail or, in French, an escargot.
13. ASTON MARTIN BULLDOG
Produced in 1979, the Aston Martin Bulldog is far from the Aston Martin we know today. The manufacturer was supposed to produce 25 units of this vehicle. Luckily only one was built. Look at how odd its design looks like.
14. SSYANGYONG RODIUS
Marketed in 2004, the SsyangTong Rodius was aimed to look like a luxury yacht. However, to the naked eye, the Rodius looks more like a badly designed vehicle than a yacht. Why did SsyangYong want an automobile design to look like a sea vehicle? That is the question that also baffles us.
15. ASTON MARTIN LAGONDA
Unfortunately, another Aston Martin lands on this list of the world’s weird car designs. This time it’s the Aston Martin Lagonda. This 1970s car’s design was just a disaster even in that decade, and what’s worse, it was reported that this vehicle also had problems with its electronic systems!
